Quantcast raises $20 million

The web metrics space is heating up as Quantast raises a $20 million Series B round.

Quantcast competes with online media measurement companies such as comScore, Hitwise and Compete.

Quantcast differs by providing internet ratings using a hybrid or holistic (as they say) method. Where comScore uses entirely panel based tracking, Quantcast uses a combination of panels and direct site measurement. Site activity is monitored directly by having sites install a piece of code on their properties. The impressive part is that all data is made available for free.

With $20 million ready to go, will this become a panel vs. hybrid battle?
