Great read: The Death and Life of Great American Cities

Though it's been over 45 years since it's initial publication, The Death and Life of Great American Cities by Jane Jacobs remains as a classic social commentary must-read. Jacobs explores urbanization, cities, how they work - and why they don't work.

Urban planning and policies impact every one of us every day. Much of it may seem like common sense but Jacobs provides a provocative view challenging what most people walk past every day. Many of today's social and economic problems are linked directly to how we have structured the physical world around us.

Whether you live in the core of a city or in suburbia, Jane Jacobs will make you take a second and more careful look at the world around you.
